One of the biggest—but often overlooked—aspects of home décor is, of course, lighting. The lamps, bulbs and even string lights we use to light our homes serve both stylistic and functional purposes, and have the power to make a subtle statement about the home and those who live in it.

Below, we will be looking at five unique lighting ideas to consider for your Central Florida home.

Floor lighting

Movie theaters are known for their use of floor lighting to guide patrons in and out of dark theaters—so why would you use this type of lighting in your home? While they may not make sense in every room of your home, floor lights can work exceptionally well in rooms where you don’t necessarily always need or want overhead lighting for your purposes. A great example of this is, of course, a home theater or media room. Your guests will be able to make their way in and out of the space safely, but you won’t have to deal with the glare of overheard lights while you’re trying to enjoy a movie or other program.

Unique recessed lighting

Many homes already utilize recessed lighting, but there are unique ways to implement this traditional type of lighting that you may not have considered. A group of six or more recessed lights (as opposed to one or two) can make for a unique design on your ceiling, and can provide you with more options for light customization for when you want less, or more, light.

Pendant lights

Pendant, or hanging, lights are perfect for adding functional light as well as visual flair to a space. There is a wide variety of styles and sizes to choose from, so you can easily find one that fits nicely with your home décor. Use pendant lights in a way that doesn’t obstruct the ease of daily activities (for example, if you place them over a kitchen island or breakfast bar, be sure that they won’t get in the way of eating!).

String lights for year-round use

With the holiday season behind us, you may be taking down your garland, ornaments and other holiday décor—however, you may want to keep those string lights around! Neutral white string lights can add personality to any room they are used in, and help contribute to a relaxed, playful atmosphere even outside of the holiday season. This is a great idea for kids’ rooms especially, but is also perfect for a family den or even outdoors over your patio.

Statement lamp

Who says lighting can’t be a decoration in itself? Use a statement lamp to light up a space and make for a bold impression when guests come by. There are table and floor lamps available in virtually any color and design you can think of—and some are sculpted into interesting shapes or designs that add to your home’s “wow” factor.

Lighting plays a big role in your home—take time to find lighting fixtures that add to your home’s style and personality!
