Mount Dora locals, what do you do on the weekends? Take a stroll through Donnelly Park, maybe go shopping downtown? To us, it’s home—to Smithsonian Magazine, it’s one of the country’s top 20 small towns.

Smithsonianmag.com published the list (which included towns ranging from rural community centers to a desert oasis) April 1, in the hopes that readers would find charm and adventure on their travels this year.

One of the attractions featured was the annual Mount Dora Craft Fair, which attracts thousands of antique enthusiasts and residents every year with its vast selection of unique finds. Also mentioned was the weekly Renningers flea- and antique-market and Palm Island Park known for its nature walks.

Maybe it will instill a new sense of pride in your town, or maybe you just needed an excuse to go out and explore. Either way, this list just affirms something we already know: Mount Dora is truly one of Florida’s greatest hidden gems.
You can find the profile on Mount Dora and learn about the other towns featured on Smithsonianmag.com.
